About
Alison is a Virginia licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and a certified member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). She has over a decade's worth of experience evaluating and treating children diagnosed with a variety of developmental delays, learning disabilities, and speech and language impairments. Her career in pediatrics started in 2009 and has spanned multiple settings including: clinics, schools, and most recently Arlington Public Schools. Alison proudly opened Communicating Kids in 2022.
Alison holds a Master's Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Hampton University and is committed to using evidence-based methods to treat speech and language disorders. She is passionate about helping children communicate and has completed extensive additional clinical trainings in order to provide the best treatments for her clients. Some of the trainings Alison has completed include: The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), and Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP) for AAC, Social Thinking for social communication, and Lindamood-Bell Seeing Stars for reading among others.
Alison's favorite way to treat speech, language and literacy disorders is with fun engaging activities. She believes in the power of play and strives to make every session joyful for the child.
Alison lives in Alexandria, Virginia with her husband, son and pet poodle. When not helping children become better communicators she can usually be found outdoors; gardening, hiking or enjoying the playground with her little one.
